The water source is drawn from the Lingjin, Feng, and Fengxing Mountains within the ecological protection zone on the southeastern slope of Huangshan Mountain. The planned water source area, covering nearly 24 square kilometers, encompasses a picturesque mountainous area adorned with lush forests and bamboo groves. This scenic area has been a spiritual and picturesque destination since ancient times, with numerous springs and wells, each with its own clear, sweet, and flawless water. Lingjin Mountain was once the retreat of Li Shanchang, a founding hero of the Ming Dynasty. Xu Ge Lao, a prominent official during the Jiajing, Longqing, and Wanli reigns, also studied Buddhist scriptures at Lingjin Mountain Temple before entering officialdom. The Confucian master Zhu Xi praised the beauty of this area, describing it as "mountains, rivers, Tang Dynasty, marshes, clouds, trees, and Han Gong Temple." According to the Qing Dynasty poet and calligrapher Xu Chengyao's "Sheshi Xiantan," every year at the turn of spring and summer, hundreds of springs gushed forth at the foot of Lingjin Mountain, creating a scene where "food and lodging were free, every household had tea sets, and everyone drank freely." The renowned scholar Xu Chu of the late Ming Dynasty once lived in seclusion in a high temple on the southern slope of Fengshan Mountain, where he composed moving poems such as "Ode to the Xin'an River" and "Ode to Mount Huangshan." However, his favorite was the water from Gaomiao Spring. "I often bring a cauldron to test the spring water, where tadpoles sip the clear water from the grass. Few villages have wells, so even watering rice and vegetables is pathetic." In his poem "Appreciating the Spring," he described Gaomiao Spring, one of the four famous springs in ancient Huizhou. Multiple samples taken and sent to a nationally recognized water quality testing agency for inspection revealed that the water from Huangshan Wujixue is flowing from underground fissures. It is rich in strontium, metasilicic acid, calcium and magnesium ions, bicarbonate, and sulfate. It is naturally weakly alkaline and highly active. Limits for heavy metals and pollutants are far below those for finished mineral water. It also has low potassium, sodium, chloride, and bromate levels, and boasts a color and turbidity comparable to purified water, with an extremely low total bacterial count. This makes it a rare source of high-quality mineral water beneficial to human health.
